     JPEG format (above) - can be used on a website or for electronic presentations.

PC Users- Right click on the logo above and choose "Save Picture as..."
Mac Users - click and hold then choose "Download to Disk"  or the equivalent.

NOTE: When using this logo on a website, it must be linked to www.yearoflanguages.org.

   

2.    TIFF format (.tif) - for use in print media.  (300-dpi) 

 

3.    EPS format (.eps) - a high-resolution, vector-based graphic.  May also be used in print media and scaled to almost any size.   Requires Adobe Illustrator or another high-end graphics program. 

 

NOTICE:
2005: The Year of Languages and its corresponding logo are registered service marks of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).  ACTFL has invested considerable resources in the development of the Year of Languages concept, name and logo design. We therefore must prevent any unauthorized use of the service marks by any individual or organization.  All use of the Year of Languages name and logo must adhere to the following restrictions and must be approved in advance by the Executive Director of ACTFL.

I. The logo may be used for non-profit purposes. Only ACTFL is authorized to use the Year of Languages logo and name on products to be sold. All proceeds from the sale of these products will be reinvested in the Year of Languages initiative. No other use of the Year of Languages name and logo on any product will be permitted.  Any other commercial use of the logo must be approved by ACTFL. 

II. 2005: The Year of Languages official logo is available for download at www.yearoflanguages.org. The logo MUST be used in its entirety and as it appears in the logo file, and only according to the other provisions of this notice. The official colors are indicated and must be adhered to exactly if the logo is used in color.  The logo may also be used in black. The elements in the logo may not be repositioned or altered in any way.

III. Any individual or organization wishing to reproduce the Year of Languages name or logo in any editorial article or advertisement must submit a request for such use to ACTFL not less than 2 weeks prior to the planned date of publication. This will give ACTFL adequate time to review each request and respond in a timely manner. Requests must include an explanation of the intended use and a sample of that use.

Question: I am a high school teacher and I would like to put the Year of Languages logo on a promotional flyer to send to parents and to other schools in our district. Is this permissible?

Answer:   Yes, you may use the logo in literature designed to promote The Year of Languages.

Question: I am the department head of a large elementary school and we would like to produce Year of Languages t-shirts to sell as a fund-raising project. Can this be done?

Answer: No, only ACTFL can use the logo on items to be sold. We will use all proceeds from such sales to support the Year of Languages celebration. Please contact ACTFL for bulk discounts and ordering information.

Question: I am a text book publisher and am planning to produce and sell a book for middle school language students. May I put the Year f Languages logo on the cover of the book?

Answer: No, the logo cannot be used for commercial purposes by anyone other than ACTFL. Companies interested in becoming a Year of Languages sponsor should contact ACTFL. Sponsors have use of the logo.

IV. Placing the Year of Languages logo on your website: When placing the logo on your website, we ask that you make the logo an active link to www.yearoflanguages.org.
