Exciting Connection Made Between Language Educators and the Business World in Celebration of 2005: The Year of Languages!
On Monday, August 29, ACTFL Leadership opened the NASDAQ Stock Market in Times Square, New York. Surrounded by middle school students from Herricks School District on Long Island, ACTFL President, Dr. Audrey Heining-Boynton, ACTFL Executive Director, Bret Lovejoy, and President of the Committee for Economic Development, Charles Kolb, rang the opening bell after giving remarks regarding the importance of know languages and understanding other cultures in the business world. As part of the 2005: The Year of Languages celebration, the announcement was made on the marquee in Times Square. Joining the celebration were Matilda Cuomo, Year of Languages Honorary Council, Lori Langer de Ramirez and Scott Wilkolaski, language teachers from Herricks School District, and ACTFL Director of Education, Marty Abbott.
