December 2005          Focus:  Culture

Culture is infused into every aspect of language learning and although it is the theme for the last month of2005: The Year of Languages, this topic has been an integral part of the entire endeavor.  Helping students to understand the relationship between the cultural practices and perspectives and between the cultural products and perspectives provides the underpinning for language learning in all classrooms.  We look forward to hearing about celebrations around the country this month and hope to feature pictures from events nationwide.  They can be sent electronically to Marty Abbott, Director of Education at mabbott@actfl.org.

Participating organizations are encouraged to highlight the learning of culture during this month.

ACTFL event:   Culminating cultural program at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. sponsored by ACTFL and various embassies.
